How do I setup a ENET 9163 without a DHCP server?

How do I setup an ENET 9163 on a network without a DHCP server?  I believe I need to know the factory default IP address for the ENET-9163 to be able to enter it into the machine name / address box on the discovery box.  Please let me know if I'm mistaken, or there is another way to find the ENET-9163 on a network without a DHCP server.

Thanks,

Chris Davis

System Info:

DAQmx 8.8 (CD came with ENET 9163)

MAX 4.5

will eventually use this box with LabVIEW 8.2, 8.5, and / or 8.6.

Hi Chris,

The easiest way to configure your ENET-9163 with a static IP is to connect it straight to your PC using a standard RJ-45 cable. However, before connecting to the device, you will need to setup your PC to obtain an IP automatically by following the steps below. Please make sure to note down your current static in case you need to reconfigure your network settings:

1. Select Start and open Control Panel.

2. Switch to Classic View if applicable.

3. Open Network Connections.

4. Right Click on your Local Area Connection and select Properties from the drop down menu.

5. Highlight the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) in the listing and click the Properties button.

6. Be sure Obtain an IP address automatically is selected.

7.  Click OK on the two property windows opened.

Once this is done, you should be able to discover your device in MAX and set its network settings. For more information, you may refer to Chapter 5 of Product Manuals: NI-WLS 9163 Getting Started Guide [2008].

I hope this answers your question.

I was able to setup my ENET 9163 devices on the network witout DHCP server with this program.

Once the program was installed and running you just need to provide:

  • IP Address
  • Subnet Mask
  • Default Gateway
  • DNS Servers
  • WINS Servers

This data can be obtained from Network Administrator or Network Connection Properties/details under support tab.

After assigning IP address go to MAX -> Devices and Interfaces -> Network Devices -> Find Network NI-DAQmx Devices.

ENET 9163 devices should be displayed properly.

Goto device Configuration and change Obtain IP Address Through:  from DHCP+Link-Local to Static and click Save Settings.

Your network setup should be complete. At this point you can connect ENET 9163 device to your primary (home/company with static IP's) network.

P.S.

To accomplish this you need to have either network hub or switch, make sure you are disconnected from your primary (home/company with static IP's) network.
