NI MAX stuck at load plugins

Hi,

I just purchased a NI-6259 USB DAQ card. After installing the driver software I launched MAX (4.6.2) to test my device. A start screen comes up, but after 30min it is still at "Loading plugins..." I tried to resatrt several times, same result.

Did I something miss when installing my USB card?

Thanks

Stefan

Hi Stefan,

I'm sorry to hear you're having some issues opening MAX. Let's try this:

1) Repair MAX. You can repair MAX by going to Add/Remove programs (or Programs and Features in Win7), and selecting National Instruments Software. From here, navigate to Measurement and Automation Explorer 4.6.2, and select "Repair". Hopefully this clears up whatever issues you're having.

2) If you still see this issue, download Dependency Walker 2.2. Open Dependency Walker, and go to File->Open... . Navigate to \Program Files\National Instruments\MAX and select NIMax.exe. Then, select Profile->Start Profiling. This will open MAX through Dependency Walker, and hopefully show us which plugins are causing this error. After MAX hangs and Dependency Walker doesn't seem to be populating any more data in the bottom window, go to Profile->Stop Profiling. Then, go to File->Save As... and save this profile. Attach the .dwi file here and we can take a look at it.

Hi,

just realized that I have the same problem with MAX again. Now an error from Windows came up, showing me that a plugin (niHDVUI.mxx) causing the error:

Das Plugin niHDVUI.mxx hat einen Ausnahmefehler in der Funktion CmxProviderWrapper::Initialize im Prozess NIMax verursacht.
Details finden Sie in dieser Datei: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\National Instruments\MAX\Logs\20100407_092348-NIMax-00000384.log

Any idea how to fix this?

Thanks

Hey Stefan,

This message is useful, because it points us to a log and a dump file with some good info. Can you navigate to the directory specified, and attach the 20100407_092348-NIMax-00000384.log and 20100407_092348-NIMax-00000384.dmp files here? If you are able to open up MAX without seeing this error, can you please obtain a MAX Technical Report as well? You can get this by going to File->Create Report in MAX, and selecting Technical support. This will generate a .zip file, which is what I'd like you to attach.

A Corrective Action Request (#216593) has been created for this error already, so once I receive these files I will add them to the CAR.

Thanks for attaching those filed. I've included them in the existing CAR. We're looking into possible ways of working around this issue for now

Hey Stefan,

One quick thing I'd like you to confirm: When you see this error, have you recently installed/uninstalled any software? If so, have you restarted before trying to open MAX? Or do you still get this message after you've rebooted multiple times after not having installed any software?

Hi,

yes I installed the software package which was on the DVD included in the USB NI DAQ 6259, and got an update from NI website afterwards.

I restarted the system after installation and did it afterwards several times.

Thanks

Stefan

Hey Stefan,

Try this: 1) Close out of all NI programs

2) Go to Start->Run... and type in Services.msc.

3) Locate the NI Configuration Manager from within the services window, and select Restart.

4) Once this service and all related services have been restarted, try opening up MAX again and see if you get this same exception

A few more questions as well: Is this exception shown every time you open MAX, or is it intermittent? If you Continue past the error and try and expand the Historical Data category in the left-hand view, do you see anything like "Citadel 5 Universe" underneath that category?
