Upgrading from PCI-6229 to PCI-6251

To whom it may concern,

I'm sure there is a very simple stupid answer to this. I am building a new system. I got everything but the DAQ card and so I put an old PCI-6229 into it that I had in an old box. Everything worked great. New PCI card came (6251). I took out the old one threw in the new one. The card came with DAQmx 8.7.1 and the drivers I got from the web for 6229 were DAQmx 8.7.2, so the computer refused to install the older version of DAQmx or the (presumably outdated) 6251 drivers. So I removed the DAQmx, downloaded DAQmx 8.7.2 for my new PCI-6251. I installed the 6251 DAQmx and reboted the computer only to find that the card is still unrecognized. In the device manager window it is listed as "PCI device" and has an NI logo next to it along with a yellow exclaimation mark of death. I've swapped these cards around plenty of times before and never encountered anything like this. Any Ideas?

Hello Chris,

I checked the readme file for DAQmx 8.7.2, and was able to determine that your PCI-6251 is supported by this version of the DAQmx driver.  From what I can tell, all you really needed to do was to remove the PCI-6229 and replace it with the PCI-6251.  When you rebooted the computer after installing the new DAQ board, Windows device manager should have detected it and installed the correct driver.  Since it appears that this did not happen, I recommend that you completely remove the DAQmx driver from your computer, power down your computer and remove the PCI-6251.  Next, reboot your computer and install the DAQmx driver from the CD that came with your PCI-6251 without the DAQ board in your computer.  When the software has completed installing, power down your computer and install the PCI-6251.  Now, when you reboot your computer, the Windows device manager should detect your PCI-6251 and install the correct driver software.  After the software has been installed, open Measurement & Automation Explorer and your PCI-6251 should appear under NI-DAQmx Devices in your configuration tree. It doesn't matter which version of DAQmx you install because the PCI-6251 is supported by both versions 8.7.1 and 8.7.2.
