Using USB-6009 with LabView 8.0

Solved!
Go to solution

I am trying to use a USB-6009 with LabView 8.0.  I have DAQmx 8.8 (which came with the device) installed and verified that the 6009 is working correctly through MAX. I have also read on this site that the 6009 is compatible with LabView 7 and up.  However I am unable to get LabView to recognize the device.  From LabView help, to use a DAQ device I should select "Input" from the "Functions" palette.  But there is no "Input" palette.  In fact I cannot find the DAQ Assistant Express VI anywhere.

Do I need to use a different version of DAQmx?  If so, which one and where can I find it?

Thank you.

LabVIEW 8.0 is not supported with DAQmx 8.8. I think the latest version with support for 8.0 is DAQmx 8.6.1. You can uninstall 8.8 and install 8.6.1. You should really consider upgrading your version of LabVIEW. NI decided to limit the support of 8.0 in favor of 7.1 a while back. The latest version of DAQmx has support for only 8.2.x and higher.

Thanks, that workedAnd I wish I could upgrade my LabView version, but the cost is prohibitive in an academic environment.

Hello kprice,

Since LabVIEW 8.2 was released a year within the LabVIEW 8.0 release, under some service contracts, you may be applicable for a free upgrade to 8.2.

If you would like I can have a technical representative contact you to see if you are applicable for an upgrade and discuss the discounts we provide to academic institutions.

Glenn -

NI should really revise the datasheets for these USB devices. (6008, 6009)

The datasheet says they'll work with LabVIEW version 7.x or later, which is misleading since version 8.0 is not supported.

Hey,
USB-6009 and 6008 do works with LabVIEW 8.0 without any problem with the correct version of DAQmx driver.

Thank you Lab,

USB devices (6008,6009) are compatible with LabVIEW versions 7.x or later which includes version 8.0. As Lab mentioned, the the correct DAQmx driver is required to make it compatible. We typically ship our hardware with the latest drivers to accommodate the most recent software releases, and it just so happened in this case that the LabVIEW version was an older one. Please refer to the following link for    NI-DAQ & LabVIEW Version Compatibility (for Windows).
