how bad is slightly over-volting a 6008?

If I put 11V on an Analog Input terminal of a 6008 (rated max 10V), it's clearly out of range of the ADC, but is it harmful to the device? I'd rather not have to add a voltage divider (and the resulting added noise) and a correction factor to cover the rare case that my current amplifier saturates.

Most DAQ cards I have looked at have a 11V protection.  You are still cutting it close.  I would add in the voltage divider just to be safe.

You're talking about a 6008... low cost, not high performance...

11v is probably okay... but its still outside the device specs.  Knock it down to be safe.

The specifications indicate: "Overvoltage Protection ....   +/-35 V" (page 25).  It does not specify but that is probably the protection level with power connected to the USB port.

Well, good to know that this current amp is incapable of hurting my D/A converter.
