pci-1200 on Windows 7

Greetings:

I realize that the PCI-1200 is no longer supported.  Our software is being rewritten to use a PCI-6220 instead, but rollout is quite a ways away.  With XP not being supplied any longer, customers are needing to update their systems, but I seem to be in a no-win situation.

Is there any solution to using a PCI-1200 in Windows 7?

From what I can tell, Legacy NI-DAQ is all that supports the PCI-1200, but it is not compatible with Windows 7.  For Windows 7, I need to use NI-DAQmx, which doesn't support PCI-1200.  I've been checking into running XP mode in Windows 7 (a virtual PC), but then only certain processors are compatible, and even Microsoft describes limitations to XP mode, so at best it seems a gamble if the NI-DAQ driver, board, and our software will run in that context.

Do I have any options to the software re-write other than the XP mode (Windows 7) gamble?

Thanks,

Leland

Upgrading to a card supported by DAQmx in the long run would save you alot of time.Theres a trial driver that allows legacy devices to run on windows 7, its discussed here on in a similar post

Hi LelandDurrette-

You can try the TraditionalDAQ 7.5 bets as recommended above, but other than that, there are no other options beside the Windows 7 XP 'gamble'.  The TraditionalDAQ 7.5 beta driver is not guaranteed to work on Windows 7, but has worked in some cases.

Best of luck with your application and have a great day!

Disregard my first post: I looked through documentation for the Traditional DAQ beta and found that it does not support the PCI-1200.  TDAQ stopped supporting the 1200 in TDAQ 7.x.

If you choose to go with the Windows XP option, you can download NI-DAQ 6.9.3.

Have a great day!

Hi Leland,

Windows XP Mode cannot access PCI devices directly, so you cannot use it to make your PCI-1200 work with Windows 7.

On the plus side, Microsoft has supposedly extended Windows XP downgrade rights to cover the entire life cycle of Windows 7.

Thanks, guys, for the information.  I had already seen where the DAQ 7.x didn't support PCI-1200, but appreciate it.  Took some digging to uncover it.

As far as the downgrade being extended, that, I believe, is my solution.  I hadn't heard that, and most-likely wouldn't have run across it on my own.

Thanks again,

Leland
