Did you mean:

when if ever will NI include Vista support for the pcmcia DAQ cards

I can't believe that they are completely dumping the line, and most new laptops come with Vista.  So what's going to happen?  Do I get to throw away all of my perfectly functional cards?

I'm getting screwed by this and I'm not happy about it.

Nobody at NI has given me any answer other than "we're sorry", but I already knew that didn't I?

Hello,

We are not dropping support for the PCMCIA DAQ cards, we just haven't added support for Windows Vista. We have received a lot of feedback about this lack of support and I would encourage you to provide more to voice your concerns with Product Feedback. Based on the amount of feedback we have on this issue we may add support in a future release of NI-DAQmx. We will add a note in the readme if we add support and I will do my best to update all relevant threads (including this one).

For now your options are to use a USB device, or to use a system with Windows XP. Our Bus Powered M-Series are generally a good replacement - have you considered them as an option? I realize this doesn't help with your current HW, but for future purchases they are often offer better functionality and a more cost effective solution.

Thanks,

I'm just happy to know you'll be adding support in the future.  I'm surprised it's taking this long though.

I actually managed to get my 6062E working in a vista laptop by using the install disks from the Fall 2006 set that was sent out.
It's a pre-vista set and so far has worked for everything I've needed.  But it's a hack and I can't upgrade anything because of it.

Strangely enough, downloading the older daqmx drivers from the website didn't work, i needed those specific install disks

Good news,

Based on customer feedback, the next release of DAQmx will add support for Vista x86 for PCMCIA DAQ cards. Added devices:
 NI DAQCard-6024E
 NI DAQCard-6036E
 NI DAQCard-6062E
 NI DAQCard-6715
 NI DAQCard-DIO-24

We don't have a hard deadline for when this will be officially released, but if you are willing to try a beta version please contact me at MIO.DAQ.PSEs@NI.com.

Cheers,
Andrew S.

Andrew,

I read one of your published support emails that mentioned getting a beta version of DAQmx that would support a DAQCARD 6062E running under Vista.  I would like to try it out however, I use LabVIEW version 7.0 and I understand that the newer versions of DAQmx don’t support LabVIEW 7.0.  My system was paid for out of my own pocket so I cannot afford to upgrade to LabVIEW 8.x yet.  I have spent millions of dollars of Lockheed’s money over the years on your hardware but it is a little pricey for an individual that only uses it for hobby projects with no commercial interests.  Is there going to be anyway I can use my 6062E under vista with LabVIEW 7.0?  I was going to use a dual boot setup on the laptop, but XP won’t install if windows is already installed.  The only way to dual boot my machine is to uninstall vista, install XP, then re-install vista.  I can’t risk uninstalling the operating system because it would take me a month to reinstall and configure everything.

Thanks in advance for your help,

Hey Ed,

The current and future versions of DAQmx do not include support for LabVIEW 7.0 (they go back to 7.1) so you've got one problem there. Also, I don't work with LabVIEW much so I don't know if LabVIEW 7 will work on Vista at all. I'm not sure what you use you DAQCard for, but you may be able to just use Signal Express for your application. It ships free with DAQmx and exposes most of the functionality of the card. It also works in Vista.

Please shoot me an email at MIO.DAQ.PSEs@NI.com with your contact info and we can discuss this and the beta driver offline.

Thanks,

Andrew
