Time Precision Protocol Switches

A switch supporting 802.1AS or 1588 timing protocol is required to build a network of NI TSN devices. Some devices like the cDAQ-9185/9 and FieldDAQs have a build in switch which allows them to be connected in a line topology.

CompactRIO and Industrial controllers do not have a build in switch and therefore it is required to use a 802.1AS/1588 enabled switch to synchronize three or more controllers.

Refer to this white paper for more information about ethernet topologies.
