TestStand Sequence Editor unusably slow

I'm trying to evaluate TestStand for use at my company, and I've downloaded the TestStand demo. Whenever I try to access different things in the Sequence Editor, the program gets very slow; it is basically unusable. Some details on my setup:

  • I'm not running LabView at all. My intention is to write my tests in Python. I don't know if it's trying to run some LabView stuff in the background. Maybe it requires LabView?
  • It often puts "(Not Responding)" in the title bar.

I'm hoping that there's a solution for this because it sounds like it would be really useful.

TestStand does not require LabVIEW for anything.  The only time LabVIEW would be running is if you called it from a tool or a code module.  In other words- none of the required components are written in LabVIEW.

My guess is that your search directories are messed up.  Does it only slow down when you have the demo open?  Where did you put the demo?

You can go delete your search directories and see if that fixes things: "C:\ProgramData\National Instruments\<TestStand>\Cfg\SearchDirectories.cfg"  Basically shut down TS and delete that file then restart TS.  It will recreate that file for you with the default search directories.  Then test TestStand before opening any sequence files and see if it is running properly.

Hope that helps,

I had similar problem last year when my co-worker added a huge folder to TestStand search path.
