can PQA use more than 4 GB of memory in 32 bit windows?

Solved!
Go to solution

If I have aa 32 bit version of Windows 7 running my host PC but I install greater than 4 GB of memory on the PC, then will the PQA 1.6 software be able to use the extra memory above the Windows 4GB addressable limit for a capture buffer?

Thanks,

Joe

Hi Joe,

Since it is a 32 bit version of Windows it will only be able to see 4 GB's of RAM total.

Joe, additionally we'd recommend the 64-bit OS for access to a full 4GB chunk of memory, even though PQA itself is a 32-bit program.  Depending on what resolutions and framerates you're working with, you may max out the memory capabilities of a 32-bit OS pretty quickly.  We outline our hardware recommendations in our PQA readme.

Thanks!

We are switching to the 64-bit OS with 16GB RAM.

I'd like to add that as of PQA 2014 64-bit memory access has been added, allowing for larger buffers and other benefits.  You can download the latest version here.
