PXIe 5451 channel isolation

Solved!
Go to solution

Hello,

We are trying to use the CH0+ output as a floating voltage source. Our instrument is the NI-PXIe-5451.

It seems that the shield of the SMA cable is hard driven to ground by the analog output.

I can't find in the documentation whether it is possible to isolate the CHx outputs from ground.

Does anybody know whether this is possible or not?

Thanks in advance!

Hello,

I have looked into your query regarding isolating the channel outputs and it is not something that is possible with the nature of the card being single ended reference.

Thanks for posting!

Is there another PXIe Analog output which is capable of doing this?

The reason why we want to have the source floating is due to noise.

If we use the single ended reference we need to give the analog output a DC level of 1.2V.

This seems to give more noise than when we put the output at DC level 0V.

If we could put the 0V level and floating then we can use the measurement to bias it at 1.2V which gives less noise...

Kind regards,

Wim
