XNET Bus monitor: Use as sniffer without active session on the interface?

Solved!
Go to solution

I have an XNET LIN USB interface. So far, I used it to communicate with a device, and used the Bus Monitor to record the entire communication.

Now there is a setup where LIN communication is already running, and I would like to attach my interface and use the bus monitor as passive sniffer. Since I do not have access to that setup and since I have only one interface, I can't test this.

So, is it possible? The help of bus monitor says that it can be used in subordinated mode where it attaches to a running session on the interface, or in normal mode. I think it is possible that the device will then act as master, which is no problem unless it tries to transmit data. The question is if it will recognize any data frame requested by an other master on the bus.

So, I was able to test it myself now.

It IS possible to use an XNET interface as sniffer. For LIN, just use "normal" instead of "subordinate" mode.
