throw the heated grips on this weekend.
I've never used them, but my new pair shipped out Monday. I can usually manage the half-hour ride all the way down to 30F, but I expect this will make my ride more enjoyable. No more holding the tailpipe with the throttle-lock set! 😄

I was alternating between grabbing the exhaust and radiator last night.
Got the high-output grip heaters on my sled, those work well... bike doesn't have the electrical generating capacity to run those though (i'm pushing the limits of its charging system with the headlight and grips already...).
Insulate them thermally and electrically from the bar... Throttle side isn't usually an issue with a plastic throttle tube, but clutch side can be. A few layers of painters tape works well. Skidoo uses a thin layer of cork between the bars and heater element.
They're a common source of electrical troubles on sleds; plastic film wears out and shorts to the bar, or the element melts the film.
Studded tires are really awesome too.

So I was walking around when suddenly I feel the desire to grow a mustache and wear a red cap:
Hmm...

I got a recent report from out your way that said "Snow" (As far as I'm concerned that's a four letter word that should not be used in polite company this time of year)
I thought it would be fun for those that post to this thread to report sightings of that "Snow" phenomenon up here this season.
Wouldn't you know it!
I posted this on the 27th, on the 28th I had dinner with my parents in a St Paul MN suburb. After leaving dinner I had some of that white precipitation on my windshield and drove back through the Twin Cities in a mixture of $now and rain
I won't tempt the weather by posting a call for "have you seen snow yet?" again!

Primary clutch, yes, CVT belt-drive system.
Spin-balanced, fresh bushings, rebuilt. Cover's stiffer than stock so the towers don't flex under load and offers faster up- and down-shifting.
Secondary clutch that's going on is a neat system... sheaves are tied, so they don't twist against each other like the stock clutch does (= much less belt heat). The spring in there is about 10lbs which is significantly less spring force than what's in the stock Team clutch.
No twisting and lighter spring means all that energy that was used to compress springs and heat the belt goes to the track, where it's useful to me. Supposedly 10-15% more efficient transfer of power in that secondary clutch alone.
Also re: snow:
Loose avalanche from about 10/23/15. Unknown trigger. Looks to have run on an old snow surface. Avalanche ran in WSC Bowl on Baldy near Crested Butte. First reported avalanche of 2015-16 season.
Avalanche season begins....

Random rant for the day:
I like the The Daily CLAD Blog. I have email notification set so if a new topic gets posted I will know about. True it has been many months since a new one has been posted, but everyone has to have a dream. So every time I get an email saying something has been posted I get interested. I open the email to find out that some random person posted C to a post from 2012. I could understand if they had a question about what was posted and wanted clarification about something. But no, the topic usually has the correct answer already explained by many people and they just feel the need to post a letter for some reason in a 3 year old thread.
But for some reason I stay subscribed and usually get disappointed when I open the email..............

Long story short: I used to get emails from labviewjobs.com (now an expired domain) when I was looking for a job in North Carolina. I'd get excited when receiving the occasional email from them, only to be dissapointed when the email contained "NC" in some fashion other than as a state abbreviation. I ignored so many openings all around the country until, one day, I got the email I was praying for and ended up in the happiest job of my life. I'm still working there/here.
I get where you're coming from. Hang in there! 😄
