Texas german

Just stumbled across THIS about texan german speakers on the BBC website and found it interesting.

Didn't know there was stuff like this in Texas.  I know Ben and Altenbach have some german connections (I've probably left some out - sorry)...

I know Cincinnati has a HUGE German influence (largest Octoberfest in the US).  But I don't know anybody that actually speaks German.  I also didn't know Texas had that much German influence.

A couple of years ago, we spend a few days after NI WEEK in Fredericksburg (=Fritztown :D) which was founded by Germans. There is even a Marktplatz.

And I thought us Irish got around......  Smiley Tongue

There's also some good wine territory in New Zealand on the north end of the south island.  With names like "Blenheim" pronounced like Blenim (see Denim) made me scratch my head a bit....

A great place for Texan BBQ food just south of Austin is called Gruene, just north of New Braunfels, TX.

There's a strip between Austin & San Antonio going east to west which is highly German influenced.  Just look at the names of the townships.

Mother's maiden name was Schultz.  Family tree goes back to a German who fought in the Revolutionary War.  We're like Steeler fans, we're everywhere.

German still spoken in rural Indiana among the Amish.
