I am trying to understand the significance of the copy and Paste option in project explorer window. Here are the things I tried to make use of those options.
Just copied the file and pasted it again in the same place.
Ok not the right idea because I cannot have 2 files with the same name so I got the below one.
Then I renamed the old file and I pasted the one that I copied before. but it is showing that the file is "deletd or renamed". If copy and paste option has to work fine then while pasted a copy should be created near the same place where the original was otherwise I don't find any point in using this.
So if any really good use is there I would like to know that.

Hi
I'm not sure if this belongs in the breakpoint forum. Anyways I believe this is more a Windows problem rather than LabVIEW. If you want to copy and paste in Windows you cannot change the original file and then use paste. Try to create a folder on your desktop, copy it, change it's name and then paste. It will not work. The reference to the original file will be lost if the name is changed or the file is moved.
But what LabVIEW should have done was to put (1) behind your copy.

Exactly.. May be this can be taken as an idea to clean up LabVIEW.

A work around is maybe to open the file and save it as a copy, but it still takes more time than copy-paste.

Are you suggesting the items be removed? Haven't you ever needed to copy and past between projects?

No. Till now I haven't done it thats why I got this kind of question. I agree that we can copy and paste it in other project but it really doesn't create a copy of the file in local drive it is still linked to the old file path that belongs to the other project and I guess it is not desirable.

Instead of copy and paste, just drag the item to it's new location. If you want to make a duplicate vi, open the vi and do Save As and save it to a new name.
