Encoders-6602 board and Matlab

Hello,

I am designing a Matlab/Simulink based real time application for measuring the machine position using linear encoders.

My system will include the following components:

  • Linear encoders (Heidenhein)

  • NI board 6602 (Matlab XPC Target compatible counter board)

  • Matlab XPC Target (Real time)

1...Are there some feasibility/incompatibility issues while using Matlab for such an application?

2...Is the NI board 6602 is quite suitable for Heidenhein encoders.

3...Total numbers of encoders are seven. I am planned to use only one board for all seven encoders. Would it work fine? Any issues related to power management of the board?

I will be thankful for any assistance.

Regards

simrs

Hi,

The counters of the NI M-series board 6602 working with TTL signals.

So when your linear encoder provides you a TTL signal level, it will work. The 6602 provides you 8 counters. Find attached the link to the NI PCI 6602 board, where you’ll find the datasheet and the user manual for detailed information. I also attach you’re a link, which will provide you all necessary information about using NI DAQ boards with MATLAB.

Dear Simrs.

Have you been succesful in using a 6602 card for your application (with xPC ?).

We are also looking for counter cards for encoders to use with xPC ....

Thanks in advance ...

Hi.I've the same problem. I'm using an encoder for measure position of my robot using Matlab/Simulink. The encoder is link to pc using NI 6602. I use the Matlab 2010 for reading the encoder. The matter is: the simulink find the board ni 6602; I set the board with the best parameters and I link the board to a display; when I move the robot the counter don't count. what's the problem?

If I use Measurement and Automation, the count is good!can I solve this problem?
