nisldk.dll could not be loaded

Hi there,

I have been installing the following software in the order shown (with the intention to install the hardware later) onto a PXI chassis:

LabVIEW 7.1

TestStand 3.1

DAQmx 7.5 (and MAX3.1.1)

IVI Compliance 2.2

VISA 3.3

Switch Executive 2.0

Scope 2.8.1

DMM 2.4.5

From the moment DMM is installed, everytime the system reboots, the following message appears: "\systemroot\system32\drivers\nisldk.dll could not be loaded. Error Status was 0x0000034". The problem is definately to do with the DMM drivers as uninstalling them, fixes the problem.

I assume this is a driver conflict (!!!!) but how do I get around it? Will changing the order of software install solve the problem or do I need to use an older driver?

Hello,

I believe that you can fix your situation by running "Repair" of NI-DMM 2.4.5 from Add Remove Programs >> National Instruments Software.

Did you install the drivers (DAQmx, IVI, VISA, NI-Scope, and NI-DMM) using the NI Driver CD distribution, or did you install them from their respective distributions (i.e. individual CDs)? If it is the latter, do you recall if you rebooted in between the driver installations? If no, then I think that this would be the root cause of the issue. Namely, the individual driver distributions register various services with the system registry, and if one does not reboot at the end of the one installation before starting the next one, there could be some side-effects - such as the one that you encountered. In this case, Repairing NI-DMM 2.4.5 installation should fix the problem.

If you installed the drivers from the single NI Driver CD distribution, then I would have a harder time explaining what is going on. We would need to dig a little deeper, but it's very likely that uninstalling NI-DMM, rebooting, installing NI-DMM. and rebooting again would deploy the NI-DMM driver components successfully.

Hi there,

all of the software drivers were the latest downloads from the NI website. The system did reboot after each install though.

I have spoken with NI about this issue and it appears that teh issue is with the DMM 2.4.5 driver no installing one of the registry keys that it requires. There are two fixes.....

  1. Install DAQTraditional, have tried this and it solves the problem
  2. Get a registry update file from NI which adds the registry entry for you.

Apparently, NI-DMM 2.5 will resolve this issue.

Thanks for your help.

colinowen, I'm glad to here you’re up and running! The issue you were seeing was definitely odd; however, it doesn't seem to be the result of driver version 2.4.5 failing to install a registry key. Often repairing/reinstalling will flush out any problems associated with the driver distribution registering it‘s services with the system registry. It can be a meticulous process making sure the drivers are installed in the correct order with the correct versions but this ensures complete compatibility throughout your system. Good luck in your application! Shea Clymer - Product Support Engineer - Digital Multimeters - National Instruments - http://www.ni.com/ask
