1) One of the most common (and simplest) algorithims to solving a maze is a wall follower. However a wall follower doesn't work unless a maze is simply connected. By this example you can see a wall follower wouldn't work he would just continue doing cirlces around the outside.

Oh gotcha, we wanted it to be a little more challenging. The whole goal is to get students to use more complicated algorithms like vision and not rely on manual mode during competition. We didn't just want a simple wall follower to win.
