Just an update, this thing is still driving me crazy on a daily basis! No solution in sight...
Today, I was replying here and had some fun trying to spell LabVIEW (staged, I know how to spell it :D, but it would save me time if autocomplete would actually enter what it suggests! Only worked once here)

Still struggling with this on a daily basis. Autocomplete initially works when composing but as soon as I make a few edits, it misbehaves as shown. It almost looks like a race condition where simultaneously deletes the old word and enters the new word and the result is a random mixture of these operations. My phone has 8 cpu cores if that matters.
I think i only* see this with the forum editor, so I still suspect some kind of subtle bug here.
*Doing similar edits when composing in gmail works perfectly 100% of the time.

Sorry to hear you're still experiencing this issue! As I could not reproduce the issue, I have escalated this to our community provider for further investigation. I will let you know when we have an update.
Thanks,
Lili

Hi Christian -
Would it be possible to get a recording of you testing on another site? For example, the test editor on the site: https://www.tinymce.com/
Thanks,
Lili

Yes, same in tinymce.
Here I am autocompleting the word LabVIEW three times. on the second try it messes up and inserts gibberish instead.

Thanks for checking! This will help with the investigation.

Hi Christian,
Our community provider was able to reproduce the bug, but it seems to be specific to the Moto g5 plus as the same issue was not seen on other devices. There is no ETA on a fix, but we will let you know when we receive an update.
Thanks,
Lili

Good to hear! Maybe I am not going insane after all 😄
(Still wondering if it is really the exact phone model or just the combination of hardware (CPU etc)). My phone will ultimately get Android 8 but no date is set, maybe that'll fix it. It clearly seems like a race condition.
