LabWindows/CVI Idea Exchange

Solved!
Go to solution

Hi,

Is there any chance that CVI might receive its own Idea Exchange forum? So far, the only possibility is using the Product Suggestion Center

To start with, the forum might get prefilled with the most recent suggestions of say the last six months or so...

Hi Wolfgang,

I've passed your request on to the CVI team so that they are aware of it.

Thanks!

I have not seen an official announcement, but I was pleasantly surprised to find a LabWindows/CVI Idea Exchange today! Thanks!

Let me suggest adding 'debugging' or 'debugging tools' as another label.

By the way, should one re-enter suggestions entered previously in the now gone product suggestion center?

I am not sure where else to post it, so here we go...

Certainly I am a happy user of the CVI Idea Exchange, but happiness has decreased over time and I am trying to explain why:

At present, I see several issues:

  1. Too few participants. Admittedly, the CVI community is small, still, quite a few users of the Idea Exchange simply submit their idea and disappear. Phrased differently, I miss the idea exchange. I am not blaming the users, of course, but would like to suggest an improved site fostering the competition and exchange of suggested features, see below
  2. No clear structure. At present, more than 100 ideas are 'under consideration'. In comparison, about 150 ideas are still 'new' (even after two years), i.e. not under consideration. Obviously, there is no relation between kudos and consideration. Also, it is not clear to me which ideas under consideration will make it into the beta. Obviously, not necessarily the five or ten top-kudoed ideas. In conclusion, there is no real motivation for users to read or discuss other ideas, distribute kudos,...
  3. Not well-organized: Right now, browsing through the suggestions will list everything, declined suggestions, already implemented suggestions...

What I would like to see:

  • a category which ideas will be implemented next, i.e. a classifier in between 'under consideration' and 'in beta', something like 'in development' (which is available for LabVIEW)
  • some kind of indication which ideas might make it from consideration to 'development', and which developments might be found in the next beta, motivating users to push one idea or another
  • limit the categories 'hot' / 'top kudoed' to 'active' suggestions, i.e. exclude already implemented or declined ideas from these lists (it doesn't make much sense to read about a top-kudoed idea if it has been declined or already been implemented)
  • a 'pick of the week', highlighting one (not yet implemented and not declined) idea to make people aware of it

Thanks for consideration Smiley Wink
