I never have to re-type my credentials unless I delete cookies.
I do have to hit the login button which I suspect get my user name and password from the cookie and make sthe authentication servers verify same.

Does that mean my cookies are automatically getting cleared? If so then why only now?I didnt change any settings.

You might have a case of the Cookie Monster...

Maybe you upgraded your web browser and it is set for private browsing. I think this clears all of your cookies when you close the browser. Or if you have something like CCcleaner it might do the same thing.

In this case, I think muks wants to keep his cookie for the forum. Maybe the setting refuses cookings. Depends on the browser he's using. Maybe it's firefox with the recent upgrades.
IE is w-a-y too... well... let's not go there..

Previously, we shortened the session time for performance reasons, so I am somewhat hesitant to try increasing it with some of the performance complaints I've been hearing. However, our monitoring software shows that overall the forum performance improved over the upgrade. I will check with the team that manages the ni.com log in because I've heard a number of complaints about that being slow, so perhaps it's causing a bottle neck for some of you.
Thanks,
Laura

Today i was able to log in but not sign in and everytime i tried i got a server error that said something like "this is not a link broken or permission error.................. clear your cookies" and i did and and closed the browser and restarted and it fixed it. First time i am clearing the cookies
and that's the way the cookie crumbles

muks, that happened to me last night for the first time also (never has happened before). I exited the browser, cleared all cookies, and I was able to log back in again. Whether or not it was a client side issue fixed by a restart of my browser, or that action simply allowed enough time to elapse for the server to correct itself, who knows.

I think the monitors need to sit out here in the real world. Frankly, I've seen the performance decrease since the upgrade. Slow logins, slow page loads on the main forums page, slow loading of the editor...

I have also seen the degredation in performance.
During breaks I used to be able to look at 2-3 posts. The updates are so D#$% slow that I can barely do one.
