Permalink bug in Idea Exchange?

How to reproduce it:

1. Go to any LabVIEW Idea Exchange post
2. Go to the comments section
3. Create a permalink for any of the replies
4. Bug: the permalink does not take you to the post, but to the Idea main page field.

Is this a bug, or intended behaviour? Why to have permalink in IdeaExchange, if it does not take you where it should? 🙂 Makes it difficult to cite a particular post in a discussion, quite annoying.

I was unable to reproduce this issue in Firefox, Chrome, or IE. I tested with ideas that only had one page of comments or multiple.

Hello,

I am at a different PC now, and I cannot reproduce the problem anymore, permalinks work as expected and as you say!

I imagine, the other PC had some browser problem, or I might "ctrl+C-ed" the addressbar content too early, before the new permalink was loaded in.

I will check later with the other PC.

So this is actually good news, the problem was only local at my side! 🙂

I see very strange behaviour: the first link from the 3 you cited loads wrong, it takes me to the top of the page, to the Idea itself. The two other links work fine...I do not understand why 🙂

Maybe some local settings in this Firefox copy fools me? 🙂

Anyway, it looks like a local problem only...

Very odd but it does seem to be local as I'm not able to replicate it even when mimicking your account settings. Does it happen in other web browsers as well on the same machine?

Totally odd! I see an unreproducible and stochastic behaviour 🙂

I tested again with Firefox: first link does not work properly, takes me to the "top page" instead of the reply post. The two other links work still fine. Ok. After this, I opened up Chrome, I saw the very same behaviour. Even I was not logged in into my ni.com, neither the forum itself. Finally, tested using IE, either logged in, either not logged in. All 3 links worked just fine (tested multiple times) with IE!

Ok, after this went back to Firefox. Started to work with ALL 3 links! 😄 Why??? Same for Chrome, started to work with all 3 links!

Just right now when I am still typing this text, I opened up another TAB page in Firefox, and started to test the 3 links once more. BACK to the previous behaviour: the first link does not work properly! 😄

I think I just stop here. This is not a major problem, and looks like only affecting me...I do not see a way to test it further, it looks too random, and I do not want to spend more time with this. But thanks very much your assistance! 🙂

edit: just for the reference, this is what I see when the first link "does not work":

 Crazy! For fun, i started to test the 3 links using my Android smart phone (Android 8.0.0 stock, with stock Chrome 65.0...).

The first link failed once from 20 tries! Two others are fine. Ok, just to see if there is any difference, i closed the Chrome browser app, and reopened. Every tries for first and third (!!) links fails, second look still fine! 😄

Can be this something to do with my home router??? Actually it is a brand, dual-band router, not something cheap...

Ok, i will test once more today at the lab, using my work PC and my phone too, but via the university network...

crazy 🙂

edit: back to my home desk, testing PC: 1st and 3rd links are failing always in this "session", second link just fine! 🙂 Posting back later from the lab...

Ok, I see the strange behavior also at the lab PC (I am connected to a university network). I tested with Firefox, Chrome, and IE. Maybe I have something wrong with my account? Beside, I experience long load times, my location is EU, Germany. Lili, did you test the links from US? Could someone else test the links from EU? Try to do it several times, also closing and reopening the browser. Do you see that sometimes the permalink does not take you where it should?

Actually the problem seems random. First this link ( https://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW-Idea-Exchange/Show-hidden-controls-as-quot-ghosts-quot-in-edit-mode... ) loaded properly, at the reply post. After the second try, it failed to load the reply, and loaded the top page...
