The LIST 2

Hi tst,

I tried your VI today and for my need of analysis it is absolut adequate. The sorting of the names in the sequence of the LIST was ok for me because I want to compare to someone in the near of my position. As you said, we have the source and anyone can change it for it needs.

I do not expect any perfect here.

It's the only time Ray would be happy to be "mugged"

Hi

I took your "challenge" ;).

I've built in sorting of user-names and post it now as LV7.0 files.

Sorry for sounding a bit confused, but how does your string sort differ from simply feeding the 1D array of strings to "sort array"?

(except for execution speed)

It doesn't sort by ASCII value, so the a's don't come after the B's, but together with the A's (capital vs. lowercase).

Ah, I see. In this case I would probably do something like in the attached. Probably faster.

(The resuts between the two methods will differ if there are names that only differ in case, but I don't think that this can occur here)

Well, I thought about this a bit more and decided it would be cool of we could specify any sort precendence for characters!

(For the current purpose, the precedence would be AaBbCcDd ...Zz. But now we could even consider accented characters, etc. e.g.  set the precedence to AÀÁÂÃÄÅaàáâãäåBbC...Zz) so these foreigners get proper respect. :). Are special characters allowed in usernames?)

The attached is a first quick draft (LabVIEW 7.0), there are probably better ways to do it. See if it works. No guarantees! 🙂

In a nutshell, it generates a pair of lookup tables (encode, decode), then remaps the strings according to the sort precence for sorting.

I am sure many improvements are possible.

And again !
Issue n°26

What's new this week ?
- the technically valuable replies in the breakpoint are taken into account. Well,  that was a lot of work, for only minor modifications.

This week best runner is ... Dennis Knutson, with 13.33 replies a day. I guess he is trying to make my last week forecast completly wrong. At the present climbing rate, he will reach the 5000 replies altitude on tuesday.
New runners are unclebump, LV_Pro, Tom W., ian fung and rolfk.

One giant sleeper is awakening : Good morning mikeporter !

No time this week to work on the List statistical analysis. Hope to have more spare time in the days to come.
