VISA Find Resource Very Slow

Hello there,

If I drop the VISA Find Resource VI onto the block diagram, it takes about 30 seconds to execute and locks out LabVIEW whilst it is running.  The strange thing is I've used this block for years and it always used to execute very quickly.  Has anybody else seen this or have any ideas of the cause please?

Once it finally executes it does return the correct list - it is working, its just unbelievably slow.

Thank you for any help,

Martin

Hi Martin,

This problem is bothers me for years now. Sometimes I don't even notice it anymore.

I think it has to do with VISA resources present in MAX that are disconnected. (I have a lot of those resources.)

Maybe if you remove these disconnected devices the refresh of the list will speed-up.

Hi Martin,

Has Kees suggestion improved this? If not, below are a couple of points which may be worth checking:

-Do you have the latest version of NI-VISA?

-What version of LabVIEW are you running?

-You could also try deleting visaconf.ini which is located in C:\ProgramData\National Instruments\NIvisa. Following this, open MAX and a new file will be generated.

Hi Chris,

Do you know if the time-out for not connected VISA devices can be changed ?

I don't want to wait but I also don't want to delete the resources that I use sometimes. I know I can edit the ini file and change the VISA entries but a smaller time-out would help me more.

Hi Kees,

Unfortunately, I'm not aware of the ability to change the time-out for anything but individual VISA sessions.

If this is something you would like to see implemented, you can post this in the NI Ideas Exchange.

I just had this same problem on my Win7 desktop computer. It was the same on LV2012 or LV2013. The suggestion to delete the visaconf.ini file totally worked! Thanks for that suggestion Chris.

 - Also, you can use the TOOLS - RESET CONFIGURATION DATA in NI-MAX.
