network adapter to serial

Solved!

I am trying to interface a TDK-Lambda power supply to Labview. The power supply uses serial communication via a j45 connector, so it is connected to my computer through a USB to ethernet adapter. The problem is Labview doesn't seem able to discover the device. Any help on how to configure this?

Well, I think the fact that the power supply is a serial connection and you're using a USB to Ethernet adapter might be a clue.

But that's just a guess.

Please check the manual of Genesys.

http://www.us.tdk-lambda.com/hp/pdfs/Product_manuals/83507013.pdf

7.5 CONNECTING POWER SUPPLIES TO RS232 OR RS485 BUS

As I know, this RJ45 is an Serial port. It can not be interfaced by USB to "Etherenet".

It should use an USB to "serial" and a special cable. May GEN/232-9 or GEN/232-25.

When I purchased some of these power supplies, I recall that they came with a serial connection and a choice of either GPIB or LAN.

The LAN is set up for DHCP.

We turned of the DHCP and put the PC and the same subnet. I think we chose 192.168.1.1 for the PC and 192.168.1.2 for the power supply.

When using LAN, you might want to turn off any firewall.
