Using Labview with Solidworks

On Thursday, Sept. 26, 2013.   National Instruments is sending a rep to the SolidWorks user group here in Austin.  Just down the street at Signature Science LLC, 8329 N MO Pac Expy, Austin, TX.

I would love to see as many people as we can attend this. I think there is a great deal of opportunity.  SolidWorks is a 3D engineering design program that is used to make Cad (Computer Aided Design) models.  Similar in apearance to a video game image but with engineering data such as material type associated with it.

LabVIEW and Solidworks can work together.  I encourage you to come take a look at what is possible and what you could do in your world with it.

I have been trying for several years to crosspolinate the two groups.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

Hey Drew. I do not know the time just yet.  Block off 5:30 to 9:00.  I sent Bill an email to ask.

I sent the National Instruments VP of Marketing a personal invite. http://www.ni.com/company/our-vision/leadership/almgren.htm  I think that another product of Solidworks called Composer which does 3D assembly documentation (not to mention Enterprise PDM) could be quite powerful when merged with Google Glass and National Instruments.

Please send out some personal invites to help me translate to LabVIEW folks what it looks like when as you mentioned "these two worlds collide"

I know I seem so excited about this that there must be some hidden motivation. Well I do not work in any capacity where I would earn a commission or something similar.  I think that Austin is uniquely positioned to become a world wide leader in manufacturing.  Austin has a consortium sort of history.

MCC building at Breaker and Mopac. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microelectronics_and_Computer_Technology_Corporation  followed by Sematech http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sematech  Followed by http://www.pecanstreet.org/about/what-is-pecan-street-inc/  Followed  by the Pike Powers Commercialization lab  http://www.pecanstreet.org/projects/lab/

By combining Point Cloud Technology/Vision Systems/Learning Algorithms and LabVIEW and Solidworks we can take things such as West Texas wind power which works best at night and pursue lights out manufacturing. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lights_out_(manufacturing)  Starting off simple with drink umbrellas or my plan is bird houses. (to beta test how to run a business lights out)

I have talked with Fabiola about getting together with the folks at Pecan Street project and demonstrating how closely NI is working with them and introduce them to the community of architects. At the Ribbon cutting I happened to sit next to Roberto Piacentini Filho of NI. http://www.linkedin.com/in/piacentini

On the tour I saw something like 40-100 compact Rio/other NI devices.

I am working to try and bring several pieces together. The Austin Regional Manufacturing Association is having the Vice President of Manufacturing speak at an upcoming luncheon. I highly encourage people to attend. http://arma-aug.eventbrite.com/               http://arma-tx.org/

Call me if you have any questons or comments.

Curious what your application is Chris. I may be doing some work with the Bevy Engine in the near future.
