3D Graph indicator not loading

Solved!
Go to solution

First off let me say that the code works on two other (dev) PCs; but when run on my clients PC - when the program launches the front panel seems to load correctly except where the 3D graph indicator is the area still displays whatever was on the monitor previously (ie that square never gets repainted). All three PCs are Win7 and running LV12

So this isn't a LabVIEW problem but something with the PC graphics? or video settings?

Just thought maybe this is a common thing with 3D graphs(?) and maybe someone can point me in the right direction to a solution.

Thanx

I had some problems with 3D graphs on a Windows 7 VmWare virtual machine.

Try updating the video drivers to the latest.

Make sure 3D acceleration is enabled, usually in the driver settings.

If the computer is very old or low-end, then it could maybe be a problem if there is no up to date drivers for Windows 7?

Thanx Roger

I am not at my client's just now, but it is a brand new PC, I figured let me try disabling Direct3D on my machine to see if it replicates the problem. Googling "disable DirectX 3D acceleration" I found that Win7 does not allow disabling so that seems to be not the answer (although I will confirm that DirectX is enabled when I go into my client's facility)

Thanks but that doesn't seem to be the problem.

Try to type "dxdiag" in the start menu run field.

Something like this should show up, in english in your case presumably. Smiley Happy

Also check that the user account have administrator privilegies.

It could be something related to that if you are unlucky.

yes that is what I get and everything is enabled. There is no way to disable it so it MUST be enabled. So the issue must lie elsewhere

Intel integrated graphics.... Smiley Sad

A quick glance: The date in the driver seem a bit old? 2010? Perhaps ok, anyway?

well that "old" driver is on my dev machine and the 3D graph works fine; finally got into my client's facility and his drivers are dated April 2012 much newer than mine and everything is enabled (see attachment). While attempting to get the screen shot I noticed he had PrintKey 2000 installed for getting screen captures. Thought that this might be interacting with the video (?) so I turned it off, but that didn't help. For what it is worth, I am using LV 2012 Professional version and on my client's machine he has installed LV2012 Full Development System, which should not be a problem, according to Help the Full Dev Sys does support 3D graphs. Wondering if building an EXE might help (but it shouldn't).

Anyone have any thoughts?

Aha, an ATI/AMD card. Could it perhaps be this issue fixed in LV2012 sp2?

LabVIEW 3D picture control does not work with AMD video card drivers.

actually the f2 patch is buggy, but this morning I installed the f3 patch and yes the 3D graphs are working. Thanx for your guidance.
