Activating IMAQ on PC with only LabVIEW 6

Hi all,
Complicated scenario: I have a client using a Win2kPro computer with LabVIEW 6. He needs to run an application built in LabVIEW 7 which is already compiled as an executable. The LV run-time engine for LV7 is on the machine and the application hence runs ok. However, this application requires IMAQ to perform certain camera acquisition routines correctly. Therefore, IMAQ version 3 was installed on the PC, but we are unable to activate it. We know it must be unactivated because upon running the compiled application a warning message appears indicating that the IMAQ installation is not activated and it will run in demo mode for a restricted period of time.
Given LabVIEW 6 does not have NI License Manager, how does one go about activating IMAQ on this PC?
Thanks,
Riggy

I take it then that this is impossible?

Hi Riggy,

The following KnowledgeBase article details how to deploy an application including the correct drivers for your vision application, complete with licensing requirements. Have a look at it and post back if you have any trouble with it, or if it's not suitable for your requirements.

HI Tom,
Thanks for your response. Unfortunately, this doesn't help. I'm a LabVIEW coder at a University using a site-wide license structure. The machine in question is a student's computer, so I'm not worried about the licensing requirements, but actually how to activate the IMAQ installation. As far I knew, to activate any toolkit one is required to load up the NI License Manager software, choose the toolkit of interest and Activate it. Unfortunately NI License Manager is not on this computer as it has only LV 6.0 installed, which seems to pre-date License Manager. Therefore, my problem is that the installation of IMAQ has not been activated, and I don't know how to activate it, not that I don't have a license for it. How do I activate it without License Manager?

Hi Riggy,

Try installing the Vision Acquisition software drivers, which should allow you to license them fully. These are basically newer versions of the IMAQ drivers.

Failing this, you can install any NI software that requires licensing through license manager, e.g. a LabVIEW 30-day evaluation, etc. This will also install the license manager on your system.

If you are still having trouble, please post back with more information on the version of Vision Acquisiton/IMAQ you are using on the development machine and the type of camera you are using.

Good luck with it!

Hi Tom,
I took our latest NI Vision installation CD and installed Vision on the PC. The existing version must have been installed by someone else, because during this installation I was given the option of activating it. This solved our problem immediately Smiley Very Happy
Many thanks!
(next time I'll do it myself - serves me write for presuming the previous user had done their job correctly!)
