Alternatives for LabVIEW Softmotion

Hi everyone,

we have a self-developed 4-axis CNC machine that is controlled and programmed via LabVIEW, and I use Softmotion to control the axes. Now I have the task to upgrade the software to LabVIEW 2022 (currently LabVIEW 2017), but Softmotion is not supported in this version. It would be very nice if someone could recommend me alternatives for Softmotion, or should I write the whole new Motion Control Libery myself?

i'm using cRIO as controller and 5 Lexium 32M drivers (1 reserved for 5th axis) for BSH Servomotors from Schneider Electric. Softmotion really helped a lot so i'm a bit lost now because i have to get rid of it.

Thank you in advance!

Why don't you upgrade to LV2020, with the latest SoftMotion release?

Is there a specific reason to go to LV2022?

Best regards,
GerdW

Hi GerdW,

There is actually no special reason for it. My professor just wants the lastest LV version on the machine, and we might not be getting support from NI regarding Softmotion when we run into problem in the future.

I will try to replace Softmotion but if it too hard i will just use LV2020 as you suggested 😄

It looks like the company "TENET Technologies" (their Web Site is https://www.tenet-tech.co -- if it comes up in Chinese characters, there should also be an "English" button, and the head of it certainly understand English)

has Motion Control software that is compatible with LabVIEW.  I suspect their software will work with the current version(s) of LabVIEW.

Yeah i read about them once. They have this GECO Motion which seems promising. I will look into it and give feedback if it works for me.

Hi there,

John Wu from TENET Technologies here.  Err... yeah.  Our main website (tenet-tech.co) is in Chinese, but our English content was evolving so fast, we decided to spin it off into another domain.  Our English motion control content is here: https://geco-lv.com/emotion.html.

One thing that we offer previous NI SoftMotion users is that our Motion Express VIs actually mimic the NI SoftMotion VIs, so hopping over to our platform should be pretty seamless.  See attached pic:

For more information, you can leave a message on our website, or drop me an email at john.wu@tenet-tech.co.  We're on a mission to revive motion control for LabVIEW. 🙂

John
