An error occur while connecting myrio to FPGA project

Solved!

Hello Community,

I currently run Labview 2023 Q3. I am trying to making a FPGA project using myRIO 1900. When I wen to "Add Targets and Devices" and clicked the myRIO icon, I always got the same error that I attached. Whenever I encountered the errors, I formatted my laptop and installed Labview again, and I almost gave up by this error that I attached....It is weird that I could easily ran FPGA project via Labview 2019 at my previous school. If I get an advice to resolve it, it will be very appreciated. I am very ready to follow it.

Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. If someone need additional information to diagnose this issue, please let me know.

Best regards,

Setting up a myRIO for use in the Academic environment for which it was designed can be a challenge -- the myRIO Software Bundle can be difficult to install on a PC with other NI Software (including various versions of LabVIEW) present.

There are two ways to know if you have an installation that will work with the myRIO Software Bundle.  First, when you load LabVIEW, you should see on the Splash Screen a mention of the myRIO Toolkit.

LabVIEW 2019 myRIO Toolkit.pngLabVIEW 2021 + myRIO Toolkit.png

You should also see, on the Tools menu, an option to "choose your Environment" and enable the programming features that use the myRIO Toolkit.

myRIO Environment.png

If you see these, you should have no trouble programming the myRIO as part of a LabVIEW Real-Time Project, including using the myRIO's FPGA.  If you do not see these, it will probably be a difficult challenge (I "stuck" with LabVIEW 2019 for more than 3 years before being able to get a LabVIEW 2021 system running -- I'll admit I've not yet had the time (or courage, frankly) to try migrating a LabVIEW 2019 myRIO project to LabVIEW 2021.  As far as I know, there are no more recent LabVIEW versions (such as 2023) that currently support the myRIO environments (but I haven't had time to investigate this).

Thank you for your response. I am still confused with that the error occurs, which is not specified, even though LabVIEW includes not only 2023, but also 2021 and 2019. Also, Can you please let me know where I can find the "Choose Environment Setting"? I cannot see it on Tool.

When I connect myrio via USB port, I see this "myRIO USB Monitor" And then, I click the second one.

This is what I see at the first. The one that makes me weird is that I cannot see the name "LabVIEW" next to the Labview Icon, which is the most above. Also, I don't see the choose environment setting...Does it mean Labview 2023 doesn't support myRIO Tool kit module?

In my experience (not exhaustive, but encompassing at least 3-4 myRIO Software Toolkit versions), the myRIO Software Toolkit 20xx is designed only for LabVIEW 20xx.  There is no "easy" development path (meaning you don't have Palette access to the myRIO Software Toolkit functions) with LabVIEW 2020, for example, because there is no myRIO Software Toolkit 2020.  I know there are (or were) Toolkits for LabVIEW 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2021 SP1.  Getting them to install with a "matching" version of LabVIEW can still be a challenge ...

I believe the answer, at the present time, is "LabVIEW 2023 does not (fully?) support the myRIO Software Toolkit 2023 because (to the best of my knowledge) there is no myRIO Software Toolkit 2023.  The most recent Software Toolkit that is (fairly) easy to install is the myRIO Software Toolkit 2019.  There is also a myRIO Software Toolkit 2021, but it took me several months to learn how to install it (and I'm not certain I can easily repeat the steps).

Thank you for your response. I downgraded window 11 to 10 and will check if I can get Labview 2019. I have another question if All Labview versions support cRIO such as Labview 2023?

I believe (but do not have direct experience about this) that the cRIOs are supported with LabVIEW Real-Time (and the proper CompactRIO drivers), including LabVIEW 2023.

It depends on your cRIO model. 903x, 904x,905x and 906x, which all use NI Linux should be supported with the most recent LabVIEW and according CompactRIO software.

For 900x, 901x, 902x and 907x as well as 908x you only can use LabVIEW 2019 or for some even earlier as latest version, since they use Pharlap ETS or VxWorks as OS which NI discontinued around 2020.

Hello everyone,

I downgraded my laptop from window 11 to window 10, and install labview 2019. I installed it very carefully like separately installing each module and driver and restarting the laptop each download. Now, I got the software error... "Ensure that the LabVIEW myRIO Toolkit is properly installed on your computer and try again."

Can I get any advice to solve this?

Hello everyone,

I eventually connected to myRIO to FPGA project (I just checked the connection and am posting it).

1. I downgraded my laptop to Windows 10 since labview 2019 isn't compatable to Windows 11. (actually, I prefer windows 10, so I don't think it is downgraded) --> My touchpad doesn't work, but I'm fine 😉

2. After installing Windows 10, I installed NI package manager first.

3. Install Labview 2019 without any modules and drivers.

4. I installed modules and drivers that I needed (after installing, some asks restart your laptop) **I have seen some posts that you might have to follow the installation orders of drivers or module. (I didn't know that when I installed them).

5. I encountered the error message, "Ensure that the LabVIEW myRIO Toolkit is properly installed on your computer and try again.", and I almost gave up using Labview.

6. I just formatted myrio disk. There is the different error message in the attached link, but I didn't care at that moment since I almost gave up. (https://knowledge.ni.com/KnowledgeArticleDetails?id=kA00Z0000004A6MSAU&l=en-US)

7. It took for a while to format. I went workingout and came back. Finally... it was connected.

I could connected because of you(@Bob_schor), and thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and experience.
