Analog output with start and stop triggering

Hi all,

I am just getting into LabVIEW.KIndly bear with me.

I am in need to hardware trigger an analog output signal generation with digital I/0.I tried writing a program to just start the generation where I introduced Dq-max start trigger VI in between Dq-max timing (sample clock) VI and Dq-max write VI.But.it doesn't seem to work.

While exploring some example problems, I came across the following  link

where start and stopping of signal generation are achieved. The author talks about PFI as a source for digital edge and port/line for stopping generation.

Can anyone please help me understand what does this port/line mean in digital I/O.

What type of hardware connection is required?

I would, but DAQmx is really not my thing. I probably won't be doing you a favor.
