Analysing and measuring of real time video

Hi,

i have started to work with Labview some days ago and i have beginning problems.
What i want to do is similar to that : http://www.mbecontrol.com/RHEEDsoftware.html

I try to connect my camera from JVC to a USB video capture box (from Aver Media) and after that i connect this box to my computer! Now i would like to monitor this video from my camera in labview like shown in the picture of the link and after that i want also measure , for example the intesity of a certain area vs. time ...
I don't know how to monitor the video from directly from my camera!?

Is it also possible to import for example AVI-files? I have already recorded some of this Intensity behaviours shown on the picture and it would also be great to analyse them!

Thanks for your help...

Hi,

The first place to start would be to get the relevant NI-IMAQ USB drivers so that your camera can communicate with LabVIEW correctly. The following links have details on where to find the relevant drivers: (The second link may be of more use, depending on your application)

http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/274A74A901399D0486256F32007295F9?OpenDocument

http://sine.ni.com/devzone/cda/epd/p/id/5030

This second link, NI-IMAQ for USB Cameras, whilst having full documentation, is not officially supported by NI Applications Engineers.

From there, there are several useful forum discussions on these forums regarding acquisition from USB cameras  - reply back on this thread if you require some more assistance, and i'll be happy to help!

Regards,

Dan

Hi again,

on the second link is written that it's possible to acquire images, but can i also analyse a 10 minute-video for example? This is more important for me. We want to measure the developement of intensity vs. time and consequently we don't need to snap single images...

Is it also possible to import avi-files for analysation?

Btw: The download of imaq_usb_installer_setup.exe on the second link doesn't work.

Thanksfor your fast help!!!

Hi again,

It is indeed possible to both create an AVI file whilst acquiring, and to also import an AVI using the NI-IMAQ video functions within LabVIEW. There are several threads on these forums which you can find by searching for "USB Camera IMAQ" and similar searches, but here is a link to get you started that may be useful to you:

http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=170&message.id=129158&requireLogin=False

Other areas of help are within the LabVIEW help files in LabVIEW itself, and also in the NI Example Finder, which has some sample VIs for image acquisition.

I hope this is of help, Regards,

Dan

When i try to work with NI Imaq then everytime the same error appears:

Executable version (7.1.1) doesn’t match resource file (7.1). Check your coniguration

I have read about it in the forum but i don't know how to remedy the defect. Someone has written that i have to copy some files from the folder Labview 7.x, but i don't have this one !
and even so the download link you gave me doesn't work!  (for the imaq setup)

regards

Hi Dominik,

The link below should be of help to you with this new error:

http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/680E61A4D02158A186256F7A0073C228?OpenDocument

I don't understand why the setup exe can't be downloaded, as it works at my end?

Regards,

Dan

http://www.hytekautomation.com/Products/IVision.html

BTW: The download of the setup has worked on another computer. NOw i try to remedy the other effect, i hope it works...

Hi,

Yes this is correct, you will need to buy NI-IMAQ Vision to be able to analyse the AVI files. Good luck with developing your application!

Ok
i talked to my Prof from Universtiy and i can get the Vision 7.1.1 developement module ...
Is that one also ok or do i need the newer one! I don't know if its possible to run Labvie 8.0 and this older version vof vision, but fact is that we can't afford a newer software...

Cheers

Hi,

now i got the system running with LV 8.0 , NI Vision 7 and the "IMAQ for USB cameras setup"...

but with the Vision Assistant i can only record a video which is after that divided in its consisting frames, so that i can just analyse single frames out of the video...
i would rather like to play the video in Labview in a separate window for example, in order to analyse it during the run!

Do i need another camera for it or other software or what's the reason for that ???
