Are there any backcompabilities in LabVIEW?

How to run a VI in LabVIEW 7.0 that was made in version 7.1?
OR: How to run a VI in LabVIEW 6.1 that was made in version 7.1?

In Labview 7.1, from the File menu, _Save _with options
select for previous, You can then save the vi in 7.0 version.

You cannot save the file directly to 6.1. You have first to save it to version 7.0. and then , use LV 7.0 to save it to versuion 6.1

There could be incompatible code between the different versions, that will not convert properly (like the new features in version 7.1)

Each version of LabVIEW has the ability to save a VI back to the previous version.

So you can save a 7.1 VI back to 7.0, then open that VI in 7.0 and save it back to 6.1.

To do this, open the VI, then from the file menu, select 'Save With Options..'. You may have to make the entire menu visible see this selection by clicking the small double arrow at the bottom of the menu. In the dialog that opens, select 'Save for Previous' from the radio button selections on the left side of the dialog.

After you click 'Save', a flie browse dialog will open so you can select a directory to save the new version in.

Using the Abort button to stop your VI is like using a tree to stop your car. It works, but there may be consequences.

Too Complex and boring.

I am wondering why NI have so many versions but not compatible. I know there are some feature update, but I think LV7.0 should be able to open the vi made by LV7.1 just like Word2000 can open the document edited with Word2003.

I think the solution could be lower version LV can open vi made by higher version and just give some message if there are any unavaible feature in lower version LV.

Hello –

To answer your second question, you can open VIs created in older versions of LabVIEW in later versions without any extra steps as long as the block diagram hasn’t been removed.

The only exception to this is if you have a LabVIEW 3.x or earlier VI that you want to open in newer versions of LabVIEW. In this case, you need to use the LabVIEW VI Conversion Kit, which is available free of charge. Please follow this link to learn more.

Hope this helps.

Hello there

I have a similar problem here.  I installed labview 8.5 on most of the PCs in the lab but now we need VIs to be in LV 7.0 for another facility.

The oldest copy I got a hold of was 8.0, so I translated the VIs to 7.1, yet I won't run on 7.0

Could you please (somebody with LV 7.1) transform the following files from 7.1 to 7.0

Thank you very much

// NB:  Simply open and save the 'index.vi'  - it will save all the others along with it.

First, please post any responses to a new thread.   Staying off these old (3 years!) ones really does make a difference in helping the community to support you!

Now, some helpful links on the subject.  These have nice tables to see what versions let you open/save what (VERY useful).

Can I Save VIs in My Current LabVIEW Version for Use in a Previous Version?

It looks like not all of your VIs are 7.1.  I think the LLB is still 8.0?  Check out this utility for saving LLBs to a previous version.  Comes in handy Smiley Very Happy
