Best practice concerning .ini file read out

Yup OpenG, or MGI read/write anything works fine for most things.  MGI has a lot better read/write times because they re-wrote their file I/O code to not use the NI INI VIs, but both work more or less the same way.

A database-centric architecture can give you centralized control over configuration without needing to be dependant upon connectivity with a remote DB. This is actually a problem that the database industry had to address a couple decades ago. Try googling "database replication".
