Building executable in MS XP for MAC and PDA

Probably a rather elementary question but I have never written an exe file to date.  We need to write some very basic program logic in a exe for users to load from our website.  We need to support multiple operating systems.  Just curious how this is typically handled and if Labview indeed has the ability?  We have LV version 8.0

Hello!

LabVIEW can build applications for Windows, Mac, and Windows Mobile/CE, but I'll need to check compatibility on your particular version of LabVIEW and your intended target OS(s). What mobile OS are you intending to build the application on?

Thanks!

LV version would be 8.0 pro for now because this is what our colleague is running at this time.  As far as target OS, we are creating multiple platforms to operate a circuit that we developed.  Simply put, the more operating systems we can cover, the better but we would primarily focus on the most popular ones.  I see the trend going to smaller, handheld devices for lots of things now where windows is not on the forefront.  I guess just trying to see what the options are.

I am obviously new to LV and creating executables so my questions are on the ignorant side.

Don't worry, your questions aren't at all ignorant, and you've come to the right place!

You can build applications under Windows, Linux, and Mac OS, but you'll need a development system and application builder for each operating system (more info here).

NI LabVIEW Application Builder

If you want to target mobile devices, you will need the LabVIEW Mobile Module.

Hope that helps out a bit. Good luck!

I notice at the bottom it says "included in the professional development system".  That is what our colleague is using.  Would 8.0 offer these builders as well or is this only for the newer versions?  Is there a way to find that out.  The owner of the software has not used it much.  Purchased solely for one job....

Hello again!

If you are using the 8.0 or newer Professional Development system, then the application builder WILL be included in that.

You should be able to find record of it in the License Manager (Start Menu » All Programs » National Instruments » NI License Manager). It will be listed under LabVIEW 8.0 » Toolkits.

The application Builder is included in the Pro Version but only for the platform your Pro Version is. You still need a LabVIEW installation (and license) for Mac, Linux and Windows respectively if you want to support all those platforms.
