Can't start LabVIEW 7

My predecessor purchased LabVIEW 7.1 back in 2005. Trying to use it (to see if we want to use it for a future project), have uninstalled and installed it several times. LabVIEW.exe shows up in C:\Program Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW 7.1, but double clicking it does not get it to run. Selecting National Instruments LabVIEW  7.1 from Start -> Programs doesn’t work either. If looking at Task Manager when trying to start program, LabVIEW shows up for a second or two. Going into Start -> Programs -> National Instruments -> LicenseManager shows Status as Activated For Any Computer and License File Expiration of Never. Double clicking on an example .vi file produces same result. Anybody have any ideas on how do get LabVIEW to work?

(Perhaps the above is one of the reasons my predecessor gave up on LabVIEW.)

I'd try installing it on another PC.  If it works there, then there must be some corrupted files in the first PC that the uninstall is not removing.  If it doesn't work on either one, there must be a problem with the installation CDs.

For the record 7.1 will install/run under Vista too, but instrument support is lacking (I use LV 7.1 on Vista at home for number crunching type stuff).

Hi,

I remember having a problem like this back when I had Labview 7.1, if I recall correctly it was to do with the pallete or user.lib folder.  I think I ended up deleting the mnu files and rebuilding the palletes.  You may have Labview set to load palletes during launch and a corrupted mnu file may be causing the problem.

Regards,

Hi KenSagem,

I'm sorry to hear you're having such trouble with this!  I haven't seen this behavior in particular before.  I think trying SynergyMike's suggestion of installing on another computer may be able to eliminate the possibility of bad media.  If you are unable to install this on a "clean" computer, then I would expect the installation media to be bad.  If you do find that the installation disks don't seem to be working, I would suggest contacting your Account Representative.
