Closing References

Is it necessary to close an explicit tree control reference? The following code is from the example finder - Traverse Tree and Set Custom Symbols.vi.

As a rule I do not close control references. In general, unless I open a reference (most often a file or VI) I do not worry about closing it. As to an explicit reference as shown there, closing it seems silly. As time goes by I am closing fewer and fewer references.

Thanks. I know that there are lot's of weird things in the example finder. Some good stuff can be found but so many things belong in the RG thread.
