Hi again,

R&D are looking into other ways of doing this, would you kindly answer their questions below:

1) Could you describe the system a bit more as a whole, what you are trying to do?

2) Could you be more specific about what type of URL you're trying to communicate with? Your options would vary depending on the brand of PLC or if it's just a general OPC Server. You may want to talk to the manufacturer of that PLC to see how the list of tags is published and how other applications might connect to it.

HI Daniel,

Sounds good.

  1. The UI functionality is required as part of a generic application with 50+ users where data logging from OPC DA sources can be configured. The current implementation uses the “datasocket select URL.vi”, which will only allow the user to select one tag. This is not useful when the user has 100 tags to select from the same source.
  2. The URL comes from difference OPC DA sources. We are logging from a range of PLC’s from different manufactures. In many cases it we are using Kepware, KEPServerEX as middleware (https://www.kepware.com/en-us/products/kepserverex/)

Hi Rasmus,

According to R&D, it looks like you can only select one tag at a time without the DSC module.

If you get DSC, you would have access to I/O Servers and other VIs that allow the functionality you're looking for.

Let me know if you have any thoughts or questions on this.

Hi Daniel,

It’s the same conclusion I have arrived at, so it looks like there is no feasible NI solution available.

Hi Rasmus

Technically speaking, the DSC module will solve your issue, but I know that the economical aspects associated with that solution made it a less attractive one for you. If you would like to try the solution with the DSC Module, you could always download the customer Evaluation version.

Same topic, but different subject... has anyone been able to get the DataSocket Select URL vi to work on a labview 2019 runtime system? I'm trying to figure out what system components are needed, beyond just the LV RT engine. Thank you.
