Device name in NI MAX getting erased or reset

hmmm.. That may point to a possible cause...

The PC is inside a metal cabinet. It has a wifi-connection to internet and a ethernet connection to another PC (to which it communicates).

It only has an internet connection on wifi and the metal cabinet is mostly open...

Can image now that the system is in normal operation.. internet connectivity is unstable when the cabinet is closed.. And that the cabinet is now closed more.

Causing the updater to be unstable.. causing the item to be erased...Sounds like a possible cause.

Checking the logging the first time it happened was 2hrs after system start from shutdown.. 2nd time immediatly after system start from shutdown..

Checking services I can't find the 'NI Device loader' (no NI hardware) but can find 'NI confguration manager'. It has all recoveries set to 'no action'. Logged in without admin rights so can't change right now.

Thinking of it.. could it be related to system powering up with DMM device switched off? Seems strange... but maybe someone has an 'aha moment'?

If system powered up with DMM still powered off, you would still expect an interface at NI MAX. In that case the interface would be red cross marked meaning device is powered off or not communicating. 

Note that the previous statement is only true if NI MAX directly communicates with the device. For some devices, NI MAX do not directly communicate with the device. If you are not using third party drivers, you don't have to worry about it. 

Whether the case is, NI MAX should not wipe out an interface if you are not using third party driver. 

I am pretty sure settings changes to "NI Device Loader" would solve your problem.
