Dragging Shared Variables onto front panel

Solved!
Go to solution

Hi all,

Im usin the Labview DSC module for a project im currently working on. I have created my shared variables and am now in the process of creating my VI to display the data on a front panel. The problem i have is, when i select my shared variables and try drag them onto my front panel the front panel keeps minimising. I hope this is not a silly question but any idea how to solve it. I have attached a screenshot to illustrate my problem

I'm not sure what you attachment shows. You have the sub-vi "Untitled 4" highlighted?  Also, before you get jumped on, if you are going to attach an image it is better to do a screen capture, then save it (in "paint" or whatever graphics program you use) as an image, ideally as a ".png" file. NOT as a ".bmp". The problem with attaching as a ".doc" is that not everyone has MSWord installed on their machines.

I don't know what you mean about dragging the shared variable to the front panel. I am not using v2009/2010, am currently using 8.6.1, but in this version you can't drag shared variables onto the front panel, only the diagram. You can associate front panel controls to shared variables though.

Hi Putnam,

Thank you for your reply. I'm using version 8.5 student edition. Apologies for the word attachment won't happen again, I'm working from a handout called "Getting Started with the Labview DSC Module" and this says drag variables onto front panel. Im pretty sure this is a misprint alright but i am also having the same problem trying to drag my variables onto the diagram as this also dissappears the second I click to select any variable. I am hoping it is something simple that I am overlooking but alas as yet I haven't figured it out yet. Any pointers in the right direction would be great.

Regards,

Dave.

I don't have the DSC toolkit, so I can't state categorically that you can drag shared variables in that package, but I'm having no problem "select shared variable,  hold down left mouse button, drag to diagram, drop." Not sure hat could be going on there. As I mentioned, mine is 8.6.1, but I don't recall there being a big difference in that behavior in 8.5

Typically, before you try to select the shared variable and drag it, please make sure VI front panel window and project window are not overlapped ... Smiley Happy

Are you able to drag shared variables onto the front panel?

Hi Putnam,

I am indeed, as long as I don't have the project explorer window and the front panel window overlapping. Schoolboy error on my part.

Kind regards,

Dave

Weird, now I have to go back and try and figure out why it would allow me to drag and drop onto the front panel when I tried it before!  Wait, Ah hah! I had created a single process shared variable, which apparently can't be dragged and droped onto the front panel, but a network published one can. Learn something every day!
