Hi all,
I was just wondering what the difference was between a control type when the triangle on the top left corner is black vs when it is gray. In my program, only the values that come from the control type with the gray triangle seem to be correctly holding and updating. I have attached a picture. The one in the middle is the one with the gray triangle.
Thanks!

This indicates that the control or constant in the block diagram is bound to a .ctl where you have set the control type to (strict) type definition.
That also explains your updating behaviour - only when your ctl is set to be a typpe definition will it update all instances if you select to edit your control definition.

I could not get the gray version of the triangle using 2017.
Are you by some chance using 2018?
Curious,

The screenshot of the OP shows a black triangle. Perhaps you need a very bright monitor so that it shows as grey...

Or it could just be very old eyes that are wearing out. I ahd to zoom in on that image and then could just barely notice the difference.

Hi Jens,
Thank you for your help. So I have all three of them set as Type Defs. Do you think you could elaborate on this a little more. Is the one with the gray triangle a (strict) type def? If I change the others to strict, will they update correctly?
(attached are the type defs, the one called Data is the one with the gray triangle)

Hi Ben,
the "Data" control in the center has a slightly lighter, but still dark gray triangle.
The color values of the triangles are #000000 vs #464646…
I was able to zoom in on the image that was posted and then saw the slight difference in gray but when I have a strict and a non-strict constant on my BD, grab a screen shot paste into paint, over-lap the two image and then use the fill option, paint does not see a difference in the colors.
I am baffled why I can not recreate that slightly gray triangle myself. I must be missing something here.
Edit the OP images that they are all just type defs not strict.

@Ben: You are correct - after zooming in I also notice the slight color difference...
Thanks but the question remains...
"How do I do that?"
