How do I get a digital out task to only generate port 0?

HI;

I have a VI into which I feed a DO 9476 task. When I created the task, I selected port 0 (which was the only option). When I run my VI, I get an error that tells me I'm looking for 8 bits yet the task feeds in 32.

Any ideas?

It seems you are trying to output to the port (which has 32 lines) instead of a collection of lines.  When you create the task, instead of choosing Port Output, choose Line Output, and select the 8 lines you would like to write to in the next dialog (shown below).
