How to control NI 9403 with DSUB through USB port?

Hello everyone, I am a new comer to the Labview and not familiar with the use of the software to control hardwares. I will discribe what I want to do in details below:

 

The attached photo is the appratus I want to use, from the right to the left they are:

1. USB cable connected to an adaptor, which is used to connect an NI 9403 with DSUB through a VGA port, or a port the same as a VGA port, the USB cable is connected to a computer with Labview software;

2. NI 9403 with DSUB, it is connected to the right adaptor through a "VGA" port, and the other side is connected to a 37-pin cable;

3. Self-made electric switch, you can see it is connected to the NI 9403 through a 37-pin cable at the back, besides, although not shown in the photo, there is another cable to send the signals at the back and the signals are measured from the front, as you can see there are 4 banana holes.

 

The switch in the self-made appratus is controlled by the voltage, or the signal, on the 37-pin port of the same apparatus, and determines what kind of measurements are performed. In our plan, we try to control the switch from the computer through the USB cable, NI 9403 and 37-pin cable, and write a Labview program to achieve it.

 

My only experience on this kind of job is to directly use the corresponding "VI" files to control the equipments, such as SR 830 lock-in, or LS 370 AC-bridge, which I can directly control the equipment to perform measurements through VI files. But I have no idea how to control NI 9403, send command through USB to the switch from the Labview. What should I do, where do I start? I hope I can get some useful feedbacks and suggestions, thanks.

Your USB to "DSUB" is a 9171 Compact DAQ Chassis You should see this chassis in MAX along with the module. From there, you can set the DIO. See also the instruction manual for the module and the chassis.
