How to download NI-488.2 driver versions 1.0 through 2.2 for GPIB-USB-A connector

Hi,

Can anyone help me with the the  NI-488.2 driver versions 1.0 through 2.2 for GPIB-USB-A and B connectors. If not, please suggest me the suitable drivers. We have OSA HP70951A we need to extract the spectrum data from OSA. Any other solutions are also greatly helpful.

Thank you

The hardware you need the driver for is the USB-to-GPIB adapter, not the OSA. So you should look for the model and find drivers. They are supposed to exist, as it's a USB device. That driver must come from the vendor of the GPIB adapter. Once it's installed, also the most recent version of NI 488.2 should be fine, as it relies on the gpib32.dll which should be part of the USB driver. If not, then the adapter wouldn't be compatible to VISA.

Unfortunately it is not that easy. The USB-GPIB-A is a very old device and NI dropped support for it from NI-488.2 version 2.3 and higher:

The official response is contained here: https://knowledge.ni.com/KnowledgeArticleDetails?id=kA00Z0000019QOfSAM&l=nl-NL

The unofficial response is however to go here: http://download.ni.com/#support/gpib/Win-Me-98-2000/ni488222/'

But the OP beter makes sure he has a Windows 2000/XP system! It is very unlikely to work on anything newer and definitely has no 64-bit OS support!

OK, you know more. So far, only mentioning the name GPIB-USB-A didn't tell me it's from NI or how old it is.

Alternative: a newer GPIB adapter from NI or Keysight, though these are also obselete because GPIB has officially retired. Used adapters are on eBay, maybe 3rd party even still offers current models.

Not quite retired really. NI still sells them as GPIB-USB-HS(+): https://www.ni.com/en-us/shop/model/gpib-usb-hs.html

However the GPIB-USB version is interesting as the HS+ version which includes actually the GPIB analyser option is almost half the price than the HS version without analyser function. So you pay in fact more for less. 😁

And the HS is in mature product cycle, meaning it is going the be eoled in the not to distant future. So I guess the pricing is meant to incentivise the move away from the HS version.

And there are still many devices that come with a GPIB interface although it gets more and more often an option to other interfaces such as RS-232, USB and/or LAN. While the cable is bulky and expensive, it is a very robust interconnect solution that is hard to match with Ethernet in terms of stability and robustness. And don't talk about USB or RS-232 in that respect. They are nowhere near Ethernet or GPIB in that respect. Their main advantage is price, but everything else is really BAD for industrial usage.
