How to use PID to control a hydraulic loading system without the expensive toolkit?

I am setting up a hydraulic load stand used to apply loads on a linear actuator.  Can someone point me in the right direction(links on NI's website or example programs) for setting up PID control without having to buy the extra Controls toolkit.  I am running LabVIEW 8.5.  Thanks.

In the examples that ship with LabVIEW's there's some basic PID examples.  Help, Find Examples.  Search for "PID".
