IMAQ installed, but not found by LabView

Solved!
Go to solution

Dear Colleagues,

we have a university faculty (student) licence of LabView 2012 and want to use a digital camera with Labview. Installation of LabView was ok, also the installation of IMAQ 4.6.4 did not produced any errors. It is recognised by the NI Measurement and Automation Explorer as you can see in the attached PDF.

However, the IMAQ functions are not visible in LabView Function Window and our test VI can not find the IMAQ functions (page 5 and 6 of the attached PDF.

We have reinstalled LabView two times, made sure that the antivirus was disabled. We have also tried to install another version of IMAQ (4.6.1), but with the problems as described above.

Today, I realized that we have a Windows version with 64 bits and LabView has 32 bits?

Thank you very much for your help.

Hi,

please take at look at the following document, especially the point "Missing LabVIEW VIs":

Upgrading NI-IMAQ with LabVIEW FAQ

Do you have the Vision Development Module installed?  I think that has the functions that work with the camera.

Thank you very much for this link. This bring me closer to a solution. I was able to copy a Vision Folder from another computer, and the IMAQ vi's are recognised. But this is more an emergency repair than a good installation.

Actually there was one point during LabView installation which was not possible to solve (see attached image). I did not thought this was important because, I am not using special "Hardware", but in your link there it is mentioned this "When you perform the reinstallation of the software, then you will have the option to install support for the Current Version of LabVIEW." - I was not able to "Install Support". How can I do it?

I think then it is important to know what kind of camera you are using. You will need to install any kind of driver, here is a overview:

Vision Acquisition Software (VAS) is a set of drivers and utilities with functions to acquire, display, and save images from any NI frame grabber, GigE Vision camera, or IEEE 1394 (Firewire) camera. VAS is included in both VDM and VBAI and is a bundle of three drivers:

  • NI-IMAQ - acquisition from National Instruments frame grabbers, as well as general display, file saving and acquisition functions
  • NI-IMAQdx - acquisition from GigE Vision, IEEE-1394 cameras, USB cameras that are DirectShow compliant (VAS 2009 onwards), and some IP cameras.
  • NI-IMAQ I/O - configuration of FPGA included in the PCI-8254R, PCI-8255R, Compact Vision System

You can perform basic image acquisition, display, and save applications with just the drivers included in the VAS, but for any processing or manipulation you will need either VBAI or VDM in addition to VAS.

Which version of IMAQ is installed at the moment?

Michael

Here is the most probable explanation of our problem: IMAQ 4.6.1 and IMAQ 4.6.4 are not compatible with LabView 2012:
