Initialize DMM with IVI

I'm trying to create a software session with an NI-4071 using IVI drivers. I have used MAX to point to the niDMM drivers that support the model. The resource desriptor associated with the driver is correct. The error code I get back is -1074118656. I can talk to the DMM using the software front panels in MAX. Any clues?
