Installed LV 8.6 - now NO version of LV will startup!

Solved!
Go to solution

I had 8.5.1 and 8.2.1 installed and playing nicely together on my Dell Core 2 DUO XP machine.

I then installed LabVIEW 8.6 and a host of other software updates includes on the DVD's.

Installation stopped working at the registration phase.

Now I can not start any version of LV.  I also tried running the license manager, it does not work....

PLEASE don't tell me I have to do this 6 hour install over again....

Measurement and Automation Explorer seems to be the only thing I can open and run.  Well the DataFinder starts up fine evidently when I reboot my machine...

MAX can see the installed software and the versions fine.

The error report content shows that I am getting error code 0xc0000005 - which is Access Violation

It sound very much like you have a corrupted installation. Have you tried uninstalling 8.6 to see if you can get 8.5.1 and 8.2.1 working again? You may very well need to perform a reinstall. Make sure you turn off your anti-virus when you do it. If you're connected to the internet you may want to disconnect so you don't get any little beasties sneaking in while it's off.

I am trying Repair Installation under Add or Remove Programs first....

just got off the phone with NI - unfortunately will probably have to uninstall and then reinstall.

Ryan,

Before you uninstall anything, check to see how many .lic files are in this folder:

<National Instruments>\ Shared\Licencse Manager\Licences

I have heard of this sort of thing when a large number of files are in this folder, so it is worth checking before you reinstall all of your NI software.

Ryan,

I believe the cutoff is 99, so I would bet this is the cause of your issue.  The workaround is to move any unused license files out of the 'Licenses' folder.  You can download a utility that will manage this here:

Awesome.  If this works I owe you a beer or two!

Shame the pictures are not working in that page.  This is exactly what is happening - I installed a large number of products from the 8.6 installation DVD.

I will try and report back and mark you answer with Solution if it works.

If you are running Vista,  Go and activate the hidden admin account and try running it there, and also turn off user controls.  I had a similar problem with a dell a while back and that fixed it.
