LabVIEW FPGA IP Export Utility encounters a problem during installation

Solved!
Go to solution

I have currently installed these licensed components on a Windows 10 computer:

- LabVIEW Professional Delevopment System 64bit 2021

- FPGA Module 2021 (not SP1)

- NI FlexRio 23.5

LabVIEW FPGA Compilation Tool for Vivado 2019.1

While installing LabVIEW FPGA IP Export Utility 2023 i run into this error message:

Installing LabVIEW FPGA Export Utility problem.png

(I have not license for this utility yet, I want to try it out first. Therefore I can only download the latest, not the 2021 version)

I do have some older (2014 32-bits LabVIEW products installed on the same computer in case I have to support an older project, but I do not suspect that to be the issue here.

Without the FPGA IP Export Utility I am however capable of building a FPGA project (PXIe-7994) and successfully exporting it to Vivado.

I haven't tried opening the exportet project in Vivado, as I would like to see the generated VHDL and netlist on this computer first, especially details on the DSP48 usage.

I am not sure why there is no readme for LVFPGA IP Export Utility 2023 but it only supports the same version.

For example from LabVIEW 2021 FPGA IP Export Utility Readme

The LabVIEW 2021 FPGA IP Export Utility has the following requirements:

  • LabVIEW 2021 Full or Professional Development Systems (32-bit or 64-bit)
  • LabVIEW 2021 FPGA Module (32-bit or 64-bit)
  • LabVIEW 2021 FPGA Compilation Tool for Vivado 2019.1

Hence you can only install LVFPGA IP Export Utility 2021.

You don't need a license for the utility to download the previous version. You can do that as long as you have an active SSP from any software or hardware. See Download Previous Versions of NI Software

Thank you for your time to answer.

I was hoping that the rather cryptic error message was not related to backward incompatibility.

Currently our company is renegotiating license terms for a new enterprise "package" which has taken a lot more time than anticipated, and so my current single user SSPs has just run out.

I really hoped there was a way to get hold of the 2021 version of the FPGA IP Export Utility for a 45-day trial without an active SSP.

It's not a tremendous price tag, but if does not meet our needs it's a waste of time getting the necessary PO paperwork and signatures.

It turned out that the cryptic error message indeed indicated that I was trying to install an incompatible version of the FPGA IP Export Utility, as you correctly stated.

With the LVFPGA IP Export Utility 2021 (64 bit) version it worked.

thanks!
