LabVIEW License meaning

Solved!

Hi,
I have been using the LabVIEW Professional Development System 2022 Q3. My license expired on 07/29/2022, but I can still use the software, build VIs, and create EXEs. I'm confused because people say you can't use LabVIEW once your license expires. Can someone please explain this to me?

You can get licenses as either "perpetual" or "subscription".  If you get a subscription and it expires, then you should lose the ability to use it.  If you have a perpetual license and it expires, it just means you can't use or activate a version of LabVIEW released after it expired.

The subscription model started in 2022 so it seems likely you have a perpetual license bought in 2021 or earlier.

If he bought the LabVIEW license in August 2021 or renewed the SSP (Standard Service Program) for such a license in August 2021, that was valid until August in 2022. Apparently he was really lucky in updating to 2022 Q3 just before his SSP expired on 07/29/2022.

A few notes:

- Hold on to your 2022Q3 installer. If you don't have an active subscription or SSP, you have no access to older versions of LabVIEW other than the latest, from the LabVIEW download page.

- NI officially reintroduced perpetual LabVIEW licenses in November of last year and will do so for other products like TestStand and Diadem mid February. If you have a valid perpetual license you can get a new 1 or 3 year SSP for it for about 25% per year of the full price of a perpetual license. And NI is waiving all late fees for that until June 2025. So it is a good moment to evaluate if you want to get a new SSP for your existing perpetual license.
